Training on Right to Information for Community Radio Broadcasters in Bangladesh

Two Day Training Program on Right to Information for Community Radio Broadcasters in Bangladesh has been stated on 17 July 2017 at Information Commission Secretariat, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The workshop has been organized by Information Commission in collaboration with Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) with support from The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF). The objectives of the training are increase knowledge of community radio broadcaster to produce and broadcast different types of programs to promoting Right to Information Act-2009 and its implementation at community level.

A total of 34 broadcasters from 17 Community Radio Stations participated in this event. Among the participants there are 11 youth women.

The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Information Commission (CIC) Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rahman & presided by Bhuiya Md. Ataur Rahman, Director (Research, Publication & Training) Information Commission.

The training has combined thematic and practical sessions. The first day of the training covered the thematic sessions like- Background, philosophy and importance  of RTI Act-2009, Proposal & important definition of RTI Act, Priority of the act and responsibilities of responsible officer, Process of application, apples and complain to get information, Fine &  divisional proceeding of punishment and undisclosable information, Process of disclose, preservation and management of  information willingly –those are scheduled to be facilitated by Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, CIC  Prof. Dr. Khurshida Begum Sayeed, Information Commissioner, Nepal Chandra Sarker, Information Commissioner  and  Md. Abdul Hakim, Deputy Director (Admin) of Information Commission.

 The last day is scheduled by thematic and practical sessions on use  of RTI  Act in Journalism,  Technique of formulating  strategry  on   how and where RTI should be applied and  broadcasting work plan aimed to  create  demand of information which will be conducted by   Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, CIC  Prof. Dr. Khurshida Begum Syed, Information Commissioner and Nepal Chandra Sarkar. There is a group work presentation on those issues in the last session of the training.

It has expected that after the training the participants will be able to understand RTI Act 2009 and it’s implementing process. As well able to promote the Act and increase awareness in the public organizations to disclose their information willingly at community level through radio program
