Training on Basic Journalism for Community Radio Broadcasters in Bangladesh

Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) of Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has organized three days training on basic journalism for community radio broadcasters on 18 September 2017 at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in Dhaka.

Ms. Anowara Begum Director (Training) has inaugurated the training while Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) and Mr. Ameen Al Rashid from Channel 24 TV have delivered the speech as the guest. Mr. Jilhas Uddin, Reporter of PIB, has coordinated the program.

A total of 28 broadcasters of news section from 13 Community Radio Stations participated in this training. The Community Radio Stations are- Community Radio Padma, Community Radio Lokobetar, Community Radio Nalta, Community Radio Sagor Giri, Community Radio Mahananda, Community Radio Mukti, Community Radio Chilmari, Community Radio Jhenuk, Community Radio Naf , Community Radio Borendro, Community Radio Meghna, Community Radio Sagordwip and Community Radio Sarabela. Among the participants, there are 16 women.

During the training, the participants have learned thematic and practical knowledge about Background of Radio Journalism for Community Radio news broadcasting, Deference between Print, Radio, and Television Journalism. Definition, Principles and Element of News, News Source and Types, Objectives and Types of News Intro, Criteria of a Stranded News Intro and Uses of 5W and 1H News Value and News Sense, Types of News Structure Formats of reporting, technique of news collection, Technique of interview   and covering press Conference and Press Briefing, technique of script writing of radio news, Bangla linguistic and pronunciation, Formats of Radio feature, Technique of feature writing and Policy, Laws and Behavioral Rules of Journalism.

Those sessions are scheduled to be facilitated by Mr. Amin Al Rasheed, Joint News Editor of Channel 24, Ms. Shahnaj Sharmeen, Chief Reporter of Nagorik Television and Ms. Shabnom Azim, Associate Professor of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka, Syed Ishtiaque Reza, Director (News) of Ekattor Television, Mr. Mojumder Biplob, Reciter and Md. Shah Alamgir, Director General of PIB.

It has expected that after the training the participants will be able to learn the different formats and technique of radio News reporting and feature. They will also be aware of Policy, Laws, and ethics of Journalism.
