About World Press Freedom Day International Conference 2021
In 2021, the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) is returning to its roots, to Windhoek, Namibia, where the historic Windhoek Declaration was proclaimed in 1991. While the 1991 Windhoek seminar focused on the print press, the 2021 WPFD International Conference, to take place on 1-3 May, will address contemporary issues for freedom of expression, access to information and the public service role of journalism within the changed information ecosystem.

The COVID-19 health crisis has changed the landscape of journalism and the trends of information sharing. Respecting the safety measures concerning the pandemic, the Conference will be in a ‘hybrid’ modality, with both online and in-person elements. Conference sessions and materials will be accessible online, and various contents will be produced to enrich the hybrid experience.
