Dhaka, 25 October 2026: AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), has been appointed as a member of the Multistakeholder Consultation Group of the United Nations Group on the Information Society (UNGIS-MCG).
Mr Rahman will contribute experience in inclusive digital development, community media and access to information, bringing perspectives from Bangladesh and South Asia to discussions on digital cooperation and the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) outcomes.
His contribution will draw on a people-centred, rights-based approach to digital development, connecting digital inclusion, Internet governance, responsible artificial intelligence, information integrity, digital diplomacy and policy with democratic participation and the needs of local communities.

The group builds on the WSIS+20 Review outcomes, including United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/80/173, and stakeholder contributions through the twenty-ninth annual session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD), the annual WSIS Forum and other UNGIS events.
UNGIS is the United Nations inter-agency mechanism for coordinating the implementation of WSIS outcomes. It promotes policy coherence and cooperation across the UN system on information and communication technologies (ICTs), science and technology for sustainable development.
Established in April 2006 by the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), following a request in the 2005 Tunis Agenda for the Information Society, UNGIS works to strengthen coordination, reduce duplication and improve the effectiveness of joint efforts, consistent with the mandates of participating organizations.
BNNRC received a United Nations WSIS Prize in 2016 and was recognized as a WSIS Champion in 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2025.
