Project Title
Combating Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV)
Project Duration
January to December 2024
The goal of the project
Gender equality in digital transformation is crucial for the active participation of women and girls in public life and for combating technology-facilitated gender-based violence and gendered disinformation.
Description: Please provide a short description of the project in 150 to 200 words describing the project's objectives, results achieved, and impact generated.
In Bangladesh, digital transformation is rapidly changing people's lifestyles and impacting social activities. Statistics and data indicate the speed and nature of this digital growth. The country's internet usage rate is 71 percent, with 29 percent of the population using various social media platforms due to the widespread availability of smartphones and internet access. However, the increased use of social media has also led to a rise in TFGBV.
This includes acts such as cyberstalking, online harassment, photo abuse, and hacking. These actions have severe consequences for the well-being and safety of women and girls, often leading to offline violence. This hinders women's participation in online platforms, impacting the country's development in areas such as the economy and digital progress. It is crucial to address this issue as it is impossible to achieve any progress goal while leaving half of the country's population insecure online.
