Training on Local English Teachers at Community Radio

Why English teacher need training?

The students become afraid of speaking English due to traditional teaching method and lack of practice. Teachers are also teach English through Bangla in the classroom. As a result, students become weaker in listening and speaking skills of English language. They could able to catch other speakers, they can’t understand and become afraid of speaking English.

Hence, teachers can change the situation through changing their role and they need training for that.

Participants were encouraged to consider:

  • The value of their responsibility and upgrading their skills in latest teaching methods.
  • Personal traditional habits that make their work difficult.
  • The learning environment of English in classroom and outside classroom.
  • Practice English in classroom and daily activities.

After completion of the training course the English teachers can:

  • Realize the importance of English language for coping with the competitive global context in the future.
  • Analyze the present situation English language learners and the lacking.
  • Identify and understand the limitation of traditional teaching methods and its impact.
  • Identify the causes that make the English language learners afraid to speak English.
  • Determine the role and responsibilities of English language teachers to inspire and make the students confident to speak English.
  • Create a learning friendly environment for the English language learners.
  • Facilitate English language Radio Episodes and in classrooms as well.

The Facilitator:

Mark Manash Saha has been coordinating the project “American English Radio Project (AERP)” since September 2012. He has long experiences related to training program and material development. Since the inception of AERP, 383 local English language Teachers from 18 community radio stations were trained up. He has worked around the country specially, in communication and skills development disciplines with different national, international and UN agencies which supports the under-served populations for changing their life and livelihood.
