4th World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters(AMARC) Asia-Pacific Regional Conference and Assembly Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 16-19 November 2018.

June 24, 2018, Kathmandu. The Regional Board of World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters, AMARC Asia-Pacific is pleased to announce that the 4th AMARC Asia-Pacific Regional Conference cum Assembly will be held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 16-19 November 2018.

The Community Radio Network of Indonesia, (Jaringan Radio Komunitas Indonesia, JRKI) and Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, UAJY will co-organise the Conference.

The 4th AMARC Asia-Pacific regional conference will focus on ‘building resilient communities.’ Plenary sessions, panel discussions and hands-on skill development workshops will be held on issues and subjects ranging from ‘disaster risk reduction’ to ‘migration and human trafficking,’ from ‘rise of radicalism & extremism’ to ‘gender based violence and violence against minorities,’ from ‘widening social and economic inequalities’ to ‘freedom of speech.’

Community radio broadcasters, academics, policy makers, representatives of donor organisations, government representatives, and other stakeholders from countries in the Pacific, East Asia, South East Asia, and South Asia are expected to participate in the conference. Community radio experts from Africa, Latin America and Europe are also expected to attend.

The 4th AMARC Asia-Pacific Regional Conference will serve multitude of objectives including advocacy for community broadcasting, sharing of good practices, strengthening the network of community radios, and finalising strategies for the next four years for the development of community radio broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region.

Community radio network and federations are welcome to bring in their delegations to the conference and collaborate in the forming of a strategic plan for the advancement of the community radio sector in the Asia Pacific region. Online registration details will be announced shortly.

He has more than 20 years experience in leveraging community media and right to communication to create successful policy advocacy in Bangladesh in line with community media development. BNNRC represent the community electronic media sector to Government, Industry, Regulatory Bodies, Media, Academia and Development Partners from 2000. The BNNRC provides leadership and support for rural initiators to facilitate independent electronic community broadcasting services and to build and strengthen rural communities. He actively works to improve recognition of the community electronic media sector [Community Radio | Community TV | Community Film] & its work in and involvement with the communities it seeks to serve. BNNRC's outreach extends to local, national and international forums for communicating Knowledge for Development (KM4D). In this backdrop, communication is recognized as an essential human need and, therefore, as a basic human right. Our working strategies are: 1. Communicating on the Public Sphere: The role of communication and media in exercising democratic political participation in society 2. Communicating Knowledge: The terms and means by which knowledge generated by society is communicated, or blocked, for use by different groups. 3. Civil Rights in Communication: The exercise of civil rights relating to the processes of communication in society & 4. Cultural Rights in Communication: The communication of diverse cultures, cultural forms and identities at the individual and social levels.
