COVID-19: Orientation for Bangladesh Community Radio Broadcasters on Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation, Disinformation & Malinformation
Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) organized an online orientation program on Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation, Disinformation & Malinformation with the Community Radio in Bangladesh on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. A total of 33 participants from 18 Community Radio and 2 Visual Radio joined the orientation.
The main objective of the orientation was to create the right environment for vaccine confidence to thrive, the COVID-19: Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation Program in Bangladesh. The vaccine education program particularly diverse communities that have been most harmed, and those on the front lines of the pandemic & raise awareness of the need to ensure that all stakeholders are involved at immunization process.
AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive officer of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) welcomed the participants and highlighted about the objective of the program and pointing the result of the orientation to the radio stations which will help to prevent the misinformation about the COVID-19 Vaccination through this education program and answered the queries of the participants. Protiva Banerjee, Assistant Coordinator, BNNRC briefed about outline of the programs which will Broadcast to counter Misinformation, Disinformation & Malinformation about COVID-19 Vaccination.
It is to be noted here the COVID-19: Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation Program in Bangladesh will be started from tomorrow through Community Radio stations in rural Bangladesh.
Mark Manash Saha, Program Coordinator of BNNRC highlighted that COVID-19: Vaccine Education & Counter Misinformation Program will create a positive result in the society and the community people to raise awareness about COVID-19: Vaccine Education program.
More than any other public health crisis in recent past, the COVID-19 pandemic emphasizes the necessity of effective health and risk communication. With the epidemic reaching all corners of the globe, no population or industry has been untouched, resulting in many swift and powerful narratives about the consequences of COVID-19.
The purpose of the campaign is to address the COVID-19 infodemic through the development of strategic and well-coordinated national action plans to rapidly counter vaccine misinformation and build demand for vaccination that are informed by social listening. Provide education on, and advocate for, adherence to a gold-standard regulatory review process and addressing a COVID-19 infodemic and fostering demand for immunization.
The initiative will raise awareness around the importance of COVID-19 vaccination for public health, the economy and broader society. Promote the impact of vaccination uptake in protecting individuals, families, and communities
Supporting journalistic efforts to fact-check misinformation about immunization process that specifically seek to support rural people that are underserved by fact-checking or targeted by misinformation
Assist to detect, debunk and effectively countenance misinformation about the COVID-19 immunization process to help journalists spot harmful misinformation about the COVID-19 immunization process more efficiently & making fact checks about COVID-19 immunization clearer and more effective at allaying concerns about the vaccine — especially with rural people that are explicitly targeted by misinformation.
