Training Workshop on Child Protection and Child Right issues for Community broadcasters

“Community Radio can play a vital role for reducing violence against girls and young women and thus the gender equality will be ensured” said the facilitators at the different sessions of the first day of a three daylong training workshop on “Share and explore the best practices: Child Protection and Child Right issues in Community Radios”.

The workshop was organized by Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) at the Training Room, YWCA from 9 to 11 March, 2014, supported by Plan International Bangladesh.

The different sessions were facilitated by Ms. Wahida Banu, Executive Director, Aparajeyo Bangladesh, on behalf of Girl Power Program (GPP), Ms Sarahzin Ahmed Communication Specialist, Plan Bangladesh and Ms Tamanna Rahman, Project Coordinator, Girl Power Project, BNNRC.

Ms. Wahida Banu focused her discussion on the situation of girls and young women in Bangladesh in line with gender perspective. She has informed different basic rights of girls and young women in our society.

Ms Sarahzin described different features of “Girls Power Project” in brief. She highlighted the objectives of the project i.e. empowering the girls and young women by engaging them in sports, games, theatre, social mobilization, local government activities etc.

Ms Tamanna Rahman appreciated the role of community broadcasters for taking challenges in disseminating information by educating, entertaining and motivating all local communities.

The objective of the interactive residential workshop is to upgrade the content development skills of the community radio producers towards developing community radio program on girl power issues effectively.

A total of 13 participants from 13 Community Radio Stations of the country attended the workshop. The participants included Program Producers, Script Writer and News presenters from community radio stations.
