Free Press Unlimited (FPU) delegates visited Community Radio Bikrampur

A three-member delegation of Free Press Unlimited (FPU) visited community Radio station “Radio Bikrampur 99.2 ” at Dewbhogh, Munshiganj on 14 November, 2014.

The delegates included Ms. Ruth Kronenburg Director of operations, Ms. Dessi Damianova , Program manager, South Asia region and Mr. Bram truijen Project officer, FPU.  During their visit they interacted in a lively warm session with Radio station staffs in the meeting room of Radio Bikrampur.

The interactive session started with briefing on the activities of Radio Bikrampur by Mr. Harun ar Rashid, station manager. He told that Radio Bikrampur started its journey on 1st may 2012 and finally they started broadcasting on 1st September, 2012.The station is managed and supervised by two committee, one is advisory committee and the other is management committee. In response to several questions on area coverage, audience, programs and its impacts on the community, the staffs informed that the broadcasting area of this station is 17 km. They have 500 listeners club and about .4 million listeners. They are implementing their activities with the cooperation of local Gov. and People. Radio Bikrompur has 3 regular employee and 16 volunteers.

The station is now broadcasting different programs in different radio formats on education, health, agriculture entertainment, science & technology, sports, local history and culture. Recently they are broadcasting a program on persons with disability. Besides, they are broadcasting the bad effects of early marriage and women’s health right based program named “jago go Vogini” & “Amar Sastho”. Responding on a query of Ms.Ruth on program impacts, the Program Producer, MR. Mushfiqur Salihin informed that until now they could stop 30 early marriages with the help of local administration and the community which can be mentioned as the impact of radio program listening.

At the end, visitors went around recording and on-air studio and took part in a Special live interview program with the producer and presenter Swapnil and Sravan of Radio Bikrampur.
