BANGLADESH GOING TO OBSERVE 9TH UN WORLD RADIO DAY 2020

9th UN World Radio Day 2020 is going to be observed in local and national level in Bangladesh on 13 February 2020. In the meanwhile, all radio station like Public Service Broadcasting, Private Broadcasting, Community Broadcasting and Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication(BNNRC) are preparing them for celebrating the day 9th time in Bangladesh.

The theme for this 9th edition is Radio and Diversity! Sub themes are This edition of WRD is divided into three main sub-themes: Advocating for pluralism in radio, including a mix of public, private and community broadcasters; Encouraging representation in the newsroom, with teams comprised of diverse society groups and Promoting a diversity of editorial content and programme types reflecting the variety of the audiences.

Now 18 Community Radio Stations are on-air in the country, aiming to ensure empowerment and right to information for the rural community. They are broadcasting altogether 160 hours program per day on information, education, local entertainment, and development motivation activities in line with the promoting dialogue and participation and uniting under common concerns.

18 Community Radio station in Bangladesh provide a platform for dialogue and democratic debate over issues, such as migration or violence against women, can help raise awareness among listeners and inspire understanding for new perspectives in paving the way for positive action and also build tolerance and surpass the differences separating groups by uniting them under common goals and causes, like ensuring education for one’s children or addressing local health concerns of rural Bangladesh.

Around 100 Youth Women & Youth are now working with those Stations throughout the country as rural broadcasters. Another 14 Community Radio will start broadcast very soon

In this occasion, Bangladesh will arrange a colorful rally, seminar, cultural program at local & national level. The representative from media, practitioners, civil society members, academia, administration, sports sector and delegates from the different level of the society will have participated in the 9th UN World Radio Day 2020 in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has started advocacy process on observing the world radio day in Bangladesh on 13 February in collaboration with public service Broadcasting, Commercial broadcasting & Community Broadcasting at the local and national level.

As a result, World Radio Day Observation National Committee was formed to observe the UN World Radio Day by Ministry of Information, People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

It would be mentioned that, AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief executive Officer of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication is a founding member of International Observing Committee of World Radio day from 2012.
