Community Radio Reached to 5 Lacs Rural People with Tuberculosis service centers in Bangladesh

Six community radio stations in Bangladesh have developed and broadcasted one special radio program to increasing community awareness on Tuberculosis issues and linked with service centers on 24 March 2017 on the occasion of World TB Day.

The activity was implementing under the coordination of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and communication (BNNRC) and with support the Challenge TB project of Management Sciences for Health (MSH)

These community radio stations are Community Radio Padma (Rajshahi), Community Radio Nalta (Satkhira), Community Radio Pollikontho (Moulvibazar),Community Radio Sagar Giri( Chittagong), Community Radio Naf (Teknaf) and Community Radio Sundarban( Khulna).

The Program aimed to aware the rural community on Tuberculosis issues through broadcasting magazine and talk show to share accurate information on service provider, service center and getting expert opinion.

The Community radio stations have designed a 40-45 minutes radio program in two segments: the first was a 20-25 minutes magazine program covering report, vox-pops, interview, promo, public service announcement (PSA), song and drama.

The second segment was a 20 minutes. live talk show including phone in. A total of 18 local resource persons ( per event 3 guest × 6 radio stations)  discussed on that broadcasting issue. They were District Civil Surgeon, Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer, Superintendent and Consultant of Chest Disease, Medical officers and TB Experts of local health complex, NGOs officials.

The talk shows were moderated by experienced and credible community broadcasters. The programs were aired on prime time and repeated in the following day.

Through the program around .5 million  the community people informed  the  present situation of TB in Bangladesh  as well  as local situation, the causes and symptoms of the disease, the steps of the treatment and the availavle services provided by the government and non-governmental organisations.
