International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) approved the BNNRC as an Observer Organization

The International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) has approved the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) as an Observer Organization.

ICIC is a permanent network which connects member Information Commissioners around the world in order to foster the protection and the promotion of access to public information as a fundamental pillar to social, economic and democratic governance. From Bangladesh, Information Commission Bangladesh is playing as an executive committee member to the ICIC.

The ICIC’s vision is to be the global forum which connects member Information Commissioners responsible for the protection and promotion of access to information laws in order to improve transparency and accountability to the benefit of everyone.​

The ICIC’s mission is to share knowledge and best practices, to build capacity, to help identify what is needed for global progress and to act as a collective voice in international fora with a view to improving people’s right to public information and their ability to hold to account bodies that provide public functions and  The goals of the ICIC are to: Protect and promote access to public information; Promote and support dialogue and mutual cooperation; Encourage the development and sharing of information and best practices, including peer learning; Undertake and support research on issues integral to access to public information; Develop the capacity of the ICIC; Help to develop the capacity of its registered members and increase membership ; Facilitate reflection and learning from case work on systemic issues; Act as a collective voice in the international community to raise awareness of issues that impact upon access to public information; and Promote the development and adoption of international standards in access to public information in all regions across the world, including the establishment of independent oversight bodies

BNNRC’s approach to media development and access to information is both knowledge-driven and context-sensitive. It considers the challenges and opportunities created by Bangladesh’s rapidly changing media environment, including digital transformation.

BNNRC is in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), accredited with World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), SDGs Media Compact of the United Nations and UN WSIS prize winner 2016, Champion 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023 for Media Development, Access to Information and Digital Transformation.

The BNNRC has been hosting the Executive Secretariat of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum and Bangladesh Initiative for Connecting, Empowering & Amplifying Unified Voices at Global Digital Compact and UN Summit of the Future 2024: Make Bangladesh’s voice heard at the GDC & UN Summit of the Future.
