Training workshop on how to get started and keep going the Campus Radio at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR)

This is the first time in Bangladesh one Public University Begum Rokeya University (BRU), Rangpur is going to commence Campus Radio through broadcasting the historic speech of 7th March delivered by the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

A 3-day long training workshop on “How to get the start and keep going Campus Radio” was held from 21-23 August 2019 at BRU Liaison Office in Dhaka aimed to enhance knowledge & skills of Lecturers from different departments along with Asst. Engineers, Deputy Asst. Engineers, Directors, Asst. Directors of BRU for commencing campus radio and its smooth operation & broadcasting.

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur organized the training workshop in collaboration with DR. WAZED RESEARCH AND TRAINING INSTITUTE & Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC)

The training was combined on thematic & practical sessions. In the first day of the training Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) discussed on “Campus Radio in National Online Mass Media Policy and Community Radio Policy 2018 ”. Later on Mr. Amin Al Rasheed, News Editor of Channel 24 deliberated on Types of Programs for Campus Radio News and Techniques of Issue Selection and Script Writing.

Mr. Enamul Haque, Head of  Broadcast, Tarango Communication discussed on introducing of Online Radio & its Diagram and On-air system, Types of Microphone and its uses, Techniques of Recording and Editing, Console operation and Streaming software handling in the afternoon session.

The first session in day two, Mr. Monjur Ahamed, Sr. Sound Editor, ABC Radio discussed on different Steps of Production (News & Program), sound editing and practically demonstrates about using social media in live and its Techniques. Later on, Mr. Enamul Haque, Head of Broadcast Tarango Communication facilitated a practical session on recording, editing, mixing & mastering and techniques of software using.

In the third day of the workshop Mr. Amin Al Rasheed, News Editor of Channel 24 conducted the session titled Techniques of Program and News Making and Presentation that followed Practical session.

Then Mr. Bulbul Hossain, Head of Business Development of Radio Ambar conducted a session on the Technique of Digital Storytelling, Mobile Journalism (MOJO) and Audience Connectivity.

Mr. Col. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, afwc, psc (Retd.) Register of BRU presided in the concluding program where Prof. Dr. Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BNCCO Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University was present in the ceremony as chief guest and AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication(BNNRC) were present as  Guest Honor.

A total of 21 Lectures from different departments along with Asst. Engineer, Deputy Asst. Engineer and Asst. Directors were present in the training workshop.

The participants were Md. Monirul Islam, Lecturer, Dept. of Electrical & Electronic Engineering; Fahimul Kader Siddique,  Lecturer, Dept. of Accounting & Information Systems; Md. Yousuf, Lecturer, Dept. of History & Archaeology; Marjia Sultana, Lecturer, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering; Farzana Zannat Toshi, Lecturer, Dept. of Statistics; Mostafa Kaiyum Sharafat, Lecturer, Dept. of Chemistry; Md. Shamim Hossain, Lecturer, Dept. of Geography and Environmental Science; Md. Sanjid Islam Khan, Lecturer, Dept. of Disaster Management;  Sohag Ali, Lecturer, Dept. of History & Archaeology; Kazi Newaz Mostafa, Lecturer, Dept. of Economics;  Md. Aminul Islam, Lecturer, Dept. of Disaster Management;  Md. Sorforaj Alam,  Sub-Assistant Engineer (Automobile), Transport Pool; Md. Shahriar Aqif,  Assistant Engineer (Civil), Engineering Division; Md. Ehteramul Haque, Assistant Director (Public Relation). After the Training Workshop certificates were distributed among the participants.

It is expected that after the training workshop participant will be able to understand the informants & effectiveness of Campus Radio and its smooth operation & management.

It is noted that Begum Rokeya University Campus Radio started its experimental broadcasting on 20th August 2019 (Tuesday) at 11:00 am from the Administrative building through the historical Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation.

Prof. Dr. Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BNCCO Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University was switched on the experimental broadcasting of the radio.

In his Speech the Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Prof. Dr. Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BNCCO has mentioned that Begum Rokeya University is the pioneer among all Public Universities of Bangladesh for venturing Campus Radio. He urged that August is the national mourning month for Bengali Nation and we have to transform the mourning as a source of power to build digital Bangladesh. He added that Begum Rokeya University Campus Radio will broadcast the historical speeches of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman including the historical speech of 7th March.
